Islamabad: The United Nations has reiterated its strong support to Pakistan in its efforts to protect religious and ethnic minorities.
In a statement‚ Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Pakistan Timo Pakkala Monday welcomed the announcement of the Government of Pakistan with reference to increased security measures to protect minorities throughout the country.
He strongly condemned attack on a Church in Peshawar and expressed full solidarity with the Pakistani people on the occasion of the sad event.
Meanwhile‚ the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General in a statement said that the Secretary-General is appalled by terrorist attack on a Christian church in Peshawar.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims‚ the people and Government of Pakistan.
He reiterated the solidarity of the United Nations with the Government’s ongoing struggle against terrorism and extremism and urged the Government to continue taking steps to build tolerance and strengthen relationships between diverse religious and ethnic communities in the country.
