Karachi: Karachi is exposed to peculiar challenges of adulteration, unchecked population growth, encroachment, solid waste, management and traffic management that demand efficient coordination among all government agencies.
This was informed by commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui while addressing trainee officers of 99th National Management Course. He said the federal and provincial governments were fully aware to their responsibilities and were making coordinated use of all available resources.
Shoaib in a detailed briefing to the course participants about matters related to management and administration said Karachi was the 12th largest city in the world having third largest population in any part of the world. “The city spread over an area of 3527 kilometres is home around 20 million people, he Said. The commissioner Karachi said the first capital of the country had a population of 0.2 million in 1947 that had more than quadrupled over the years with its administrative zones comprising no less than five different large sized districts.
He said Commissioner who is the administrative head of the city, enjoying equal confidence of provincial government, plays an important link among different agencies and organizations serving masses and meeting all relevant civic needs of the citizens.
“Commissioner is also responsible to resolve any discrepancy or differences among different agencies.” He Said. In reply to a question, he said realizing its responsibility towards maintenance of law and order situation, the office of Commissioner also coordinated with relevant law enforcing and civic agencies. To queries about measures adopted for restoration of confidence among the inhabitants of Karachi, with particular focus on youth, he said measures were underway to provide easily accessible healthy recreation facilities besides all of education in a peaceful atmosphere.
Series of sports tournaments are being arranged with divisional level sports committees being instituted while different public and private sectors organizations are also fast on their way to develop year long calendar for sports related activities in Karachi, he elaborated. Shoaib Ahmad Siddiq to the role played by Controller General of prices in providing edible items and all goods to the citizen at affordable rates, without any compromise in the quality. On the occasion senior director of KMC, Masood Alam, briefed the course participants about matters related to municipality.
