Four shopkeepers jailed for over charging


KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 30 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 75000 fine for selling commodities above government rates, while four others were jailed.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.

In the crackdown, 11 milkmen, three shopkeepers of general commodities, 12 chicken sellers and two vegetable sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices, while four persons were sent to jail for continuous violation of official rates.
