KMC recovers 1500 sq yd land in Gulshan

KARACHI: On the directive of Sindh High Court, Anti-Encroachment Department, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), on Thursday recovered an expensive 1500 square yard land from land mafia in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block No 7 in cooperation with heavy contingency of police.

According to the high court order (CP-D-3922/2012), the illegal construction on plot no E-36, displaying a look of Imam Bargah with Alams etc to use as a shield to attract sympathy, was removed by the staff of the department with the support of high security provided by 10 police mobile vans and DSP and SHO of Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station. Three fake graves were also found in the plot and those were also demolished, sources told.

The plot was handed over to its owner, Ms Khairunnisa, aged 60. The plot is estimated to be worth 100 to 120 million.

The operation was led by Senior Director Anti-Encroachment Bilal Manzar. Additional Director Anti-Encroachment Nasir Sheikh was also present on the occasion. Justice Sajjad Ali Shah of SHC had ordered for recovery of that land.

Sources told the next operation of the department would be carried out against a mosque illegally built in a park under the support of Sunni Tehreek on street 9 in Clifton Block No 2, as per directive issued by SHC.
