ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has emphasized coordination between the federal and provincial governments to deal with terrorist financing.
He was speaking at a meeting of the sub-committee formed by the Prime Minister to recommend ways and means to choke finances for terrorists and terrorist organizations, here on Tuesday.
He underlined the need for promoting legal channels for transfer money within and from outside the country to discourage hawala and hundi system.
The Minister remarked that in the current scenario, National Counter Terrorism Agency should assume leading role in collection and consolidation of data for use by law enforcing agencies.
The meeting discussed the issue of terrorist funding under the garb of charities and emphasizing fresh registration and fool proof monitoring of such organizations. The participants expressed deep concern over narcotics trafficking, which is a potent source of terrorist funding.
