KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday sought from Sindh government a comprehensive and detailed report in a petition seeking rehabilitation of the families that were displaced by the 2010 floods.
A division headed by Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar expressed displeasure over the provincial government for not filing report in compliance of the court order and directed it to file the report till January 15 along with the photocopies of entire relevant material.
The petitioner, Flood Relief Camp Committee, which is a representative organization of thousands of flood-affected families, moved the court for rehabilitation of displaced peoples.
Counsel for petitioner submitted that thousands of families that were displaced by 2010 floods were given temporary shelter in Labour Square, Gulshan-e-Maymar where they were given all utilities and their children were getting education in the schools set up by authorities.
He told the judges that provincial government wanted to dispossess them of that temporary accommodation without providing them alternative place. In that regard, he said, Sindh Workers Welfare Board had published advertisement inviting applications for the allotment of flats to industrial workers.
The court was requested to restrain Sindh government from dispossessing of this temporary shelter.
