Dakar (UNA-OIC) � Senegalese President Macky Sall met on Tuesday Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, on the sidelines of the 11th session of the Standing Committee on Information and Cultural Affairs (COMIAC), currently being held in Dakar.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the current situation in the region and issues of common interest. They also discussed the special bilateral relations between Senegal and the OIC, and ways of promoting and developing them to better serve the joint Islamic action.
Al-Othaimeen praised the positive role played by the Republic of Senegal under the leadership of President Sall, in supporting the activities of the Organization. He also expressed his pride in the initiative launched at the last Islamic Summit in Istanbul by Sall, in his capacity as the chairman of COMIAC, to institute an OIC International Award for outstanding outlets of media and media professionals for promoting dialogue, tolerance and intercultural harmony.
For his part, President Sall welcomed the secretary general and underscored the importance of Organization's role in promoting and supporting the Islamic joint action. He also lauded the efforts made by the OIC chief in the critical situations that the Islamic world currently faces.
