KHUZDAR: International Human Rights Organisation Amnesty International (AI) has described Khuzdar as graveyard for Journalists in its latest report while Journalist organisation Reporters Without Borders has described 10 cities in the world including Khuzdar extremely dangerous for journalists.
Today World Press Freedom Day was observed in various parts of the country Saturday and other ceremonies were held. But no ceremony was held nor any rally taken out in Khuzdar today. It speaks well what conditions of journalism here are.
Meanwhile AI Report reveals that six journalists killed in Khuzdar from 2008 till date included Muhammad Khan Sasoli, Muneer Shakir, Abdul Haq Baloch, Ejaz Mengal, Faizuddin Sasoli and Wasi Ahmed Qureshi. Two sons of journalist Nadeem Gurgnari namely Siraj Ahmed and Manzoor Ahmed were killed in target killing. Incidents took place with Riaz Mengal former President Khuzdar Press Club were also reported in the report with particular reference to killing of Ejaz Mengal younger brother of Riaz Mengal.
Of seventy six pages Amnesty International Report, three pages pertained to journalism and incidents took place with journalists in Khuzdar. It called upon the government to bring killers of journalists to the net of law and investigate the incidents and provide security to the relatives of journalists killed.
