LARKANA: A man drowned in a pond within the limits of Baqapur police station while a girl tried to commit suicide in Rice Canal, here on Sunday.

According to rescue sources, an aged labourer, Misry Khan Bughio, drowned in a pond when he was plucking lotus fruit within the limits of Baqapur police station outside Larkana. His son Shabir Bughio and brother Babu Bughio also accompanied him, but they could not hear his cries. Police however recovered the body after a search and handed it over to the heirs.

Separately, an 11-year girl, Sonia, a daughter of Imdad Ali Dayo, allegedly tried to commit suicide by jumping into the Rice Canal, however, she was saved by the passersby. On information, Civil Lines police rushed to the scene and took her to the police station where she told newsmen that at home, a scissor she was holding hit her uncle Siraj in his hand and due to fear of torture by him, she went to Rice Canal to end her life before being hit, where she was saved by the people.
