637 polio cases reported in last six years: Senate told

ISLAMABAD: A total of 637 polio cases have been reported across the country during the last six years, Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani told Senate on Thursday. In a written reply to the question of Sughra Imam, he said 32 cases were reported in 2007, 117 in 2008, 89 in 2009, 144 in a2010,198 cases were reported in 2011 and 57 polio cases were reported in 2012. In reply to a question of Farah Aqil, he said one polio campaign spans to four days and there are eight polio campaigns per year including four national and four sub national campaigners.

A Polio worker is paid Rs 1150 per campaign including Rs 250 per day. While the workers are also paid Rs 150 as training allowance.

Senator Farah Aqil urged the minister to enhance the daily allowance of polio workers. Nazar Muhammad Gondal said the Government would consider enhancing daily allowance of polio workers.

Minister for Capital Administration and Development Nazar Muhammad Gondal in a written reply to the question of Ms Nasreen Jalil said 19 posts of BS 20 are lying vacant in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).There are a total of 46 sanctioned posts of BPS 20 in PIMS.
