Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami JI Karachi chapter through a letter has presented its proposals about preparation of transparent electoral lists to the Chief Election Commissioner CEC Justice retd Fakhruddin G Ebrahim.
In a letter, Ameer JI Karachi Muhammad Hussain Mehanti suggested the Chief Election Commissioner that the door-to-door voters’ verification should be started at once in the entire city while timings of the verification should be made public through advertisement in print and electronic media.
The JI proposals apprised that the government should announce two to three public holidays in the city including Sundays; so that most of the voters could be verified adding the voters’ verification should be continued in evening as well, so that process be completed within a week.
JI suggested the teams should constitute while keeping “census block” in mind, adding one security personnel should be there along with the representative of Election Commission.
It further proposed where the number of houses is less than 100, a team should get two census blocks, adding the team should verify the number of votes from each of the houses and mark on the electoral list accordingly.
The letter further proposed that the CNIC should be checked during the verification and a copy of it could also be obtained.
It suggested that the voters’ verification should be carried out on the pattern of 1998 census, where security personnel handed over the entire data to the verifier and be with him for entire day.
JI Karachi Ameer hoped that the Election Commission can make effective strategy in the light of the following proposals in order to carry out transparent voters’ verification in the city.
