Islamabad: The National Assembly was informed Thursday that a master plan has been prepared to generate electricity from hydel power projects in order to cope with the growing energy requirements of the country.
Minister for Water and Power Chaudhary Ahmad Mukhtar informed the House in a written reply that work on twelve hydel projects is in various stages of completion which will add 7000 MW of electricity to the national grid by 2020.
He said Kurram-Tangi Dam, Tarbela 4th Extension, Keyal Khwar and Naulong Dam projects are under tendering process and will be started on the availability of funds. He said planning process is underway for the construction of another eleven big and small dams.
The Minister said efforts have been stepped up to arrange financing for Diamer-Bhasha Dam project. USAID, Islamic Development Bank and Friends of Democratic Pakistan have shown their intention to finance this important project.
He said the governments of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have acquired about two thousand acres of land for the dam. Payment of 6825 million rupees has been made to these governments for the land.
Minister for Industries Ch. Pervaiz Elahi told the House in a written reply that National Fertilizer Marketing Limited has stock of 0.421 million metric tons of Urea which is sufficient for Rabi Crop cultivation.
He said that the storage network of the urea fertilizer has been enhanced in order to ensure judicious and transparent distribution of fertilizer in the country.
Minister for Textile Makhdoom Shahabuddin told the House in a written reply that Pakistan Textile City is being established on 1250 acres of land in the eastern zone of Port Qasim Authority, Karachi provide state-of-the-art fully developed plots of various sizes for the textiles sector. He said 300 acres of land has been acquired for Karachi Garment City.
Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah informed the House that besides PIA, agreements have been signed with Shaheen Airline, Saudi Airlines and NAS Air for Hajj flights.
Earlier, the chair took serious notice of non submission of replies of 25 questions particularly relating to the Ministry for Water and Power.
The members said that strong action should be taken against the concerned officials who did not submit the replies. Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah said that non submission of replies is a contempt.
It has become a routine of different departments that they do not bother to submit their replies. He asked the chair to initiate strong action against the non seriousness of different Ministries.
Law Minister Farooq H. Naek said that he will apprise the Prime Minister about the absence of Ministers, Minister of States and Parliamentary Secretaries from the House.
