HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said on Saturday that the democracy and parliament are imperative to face multidimensional challenges, while strong parliament is only solution to issues of terrorism and others.
“The nation should get united to confront the challenges of terrorism and extremism,” he said while addressing a ceremony here.
PPP believes in provincial autonomy and that is why it has given more rights to the provinces, he said. Raja said the PPP is ready for the accountability of its five-year government performance.
Talking to media persons‚ the prime minister said Pakistan has reached an agreement with Iran to overcoming energy crisis. “Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project will help resolve energy shortage issue and improve the economy of the country”, he said.
Meanwhile, addressing a public meeting after inaugurating some development schemes in Sanghar, the prime minister said PPP is determined to win next general elections in all provinces of the country. He said next general elections would be free‚ fair and transparent as the Election Commission is fully empowered to conduct fair polls.
He brushed aside the impression of rigging in the next polls and said it is not possible for anyone to rig the next elections in the presence of independent judiciary and media. “The PPP government has carried out a record developmental works for the welfare of the people during the last five years. It has many achievements despite it faced immense challenges like terrorism‚ natural disasters and recession.”
The prime minister said President Asif Ali Zardari pursued policy of reconciliation and invited all parties including PMLN to join the government for the sake of Pakistan. He said the government would compensate the losses caused by floods.
The prime minister announced Rs200 million for development schemes in Sanghar district.
