SC orders ATC to dispose of Shahzeb murder case in seven days

ISLAMABAD: A three-member Supreme Court bench on Friday directed the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) to dispose of Shahzeb murder case in seven days and conduct its hearing on daily basis.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed also disposed of the suo motu case of Shahzeb murder. The court however held that the matter pertaining to fleeing of Shahzeb abroad will be heard by its own (SC). The court expressed dissatisfaction on the performance of FIA and rejected its report in Shahzeb murder case.

The court noted Shahrukh Jatoi, the key accused in Shahzeb murder case, misled FIA, customs, immigration and ASF officials, however, only two persons who helped Shahrukh escape were arrested.

During the hearing, the chief justice noted that Karachi had become bastion of human smuggling. He said crime rate was increasing in Karachi day by day, adding no one was VIP before the law. He expressed dissatisfaction on the performance of FIA.

The FIA officials informed the court that there was no exit stamp on Shahrukh Jatoi’s passport, adding that he flew Dubai by forgery.

DIG Shahid Hayat informed the court that CCTV footage was not showing Shahrukh Jatoi’s fleeing. The court also directed the FIA Director General to review the false report submitted by FIA officials of Karachi and submit a report in the court after three days.
