Karachi: Chairperson Subh-e-Nau Shahida Kausar Farooq Friday urged Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) to sack its incompetent secretary Mumtaz Yousuf for his careless attitude towards the game of tennis.
Shahida, who regularly organizes tennis tournaments in the country, said that due to the secretary Pakistan number one tennis player Aqeel Khan and Ahmed Chaudhry lost the chance to play in the Asian Invitational Tennis Championship.
Shahida alleged that the tournament organizers tried many times to contact the secretary to inquire about availability of the two players but the secretary didn’t receive the calls.
“The tournament organizer tried many times to contact the secretary to confirm the availability of the two players but he was unreachable. Such an attitude from the top official would further spoil the already struggling game of tennis in the country,” she added.
She demanded that the PTF should bring in a full-time secretary instead of part-timer Mumtaz Yousuf in order to the day to day affair of the sport properly.
She said that as President PTF Syed Kaleem Imam was running federation’s affairs from Sudan therefore a full-time secretary is much needed.
She said that the Asian Invitational Tennis Championship scheduled to be held from Dec 3-8 in Bangkok was a big chance for the two players to polish their game.
“If such things happen more than the game of tennis in the country would only move downhill and improving the game would only be a distant dream,” Shahida lamented.
