Three killed, a Navy officer injured in violence

KARACHI: Four people, including two religious activists, were gunned down and one Pakistan Navy officer injured in different acts of violence in the city on Wednesday.

In first incident, 40-year-old Wajid Ali Sheikh, son of Faiz Muhammad, was gunned down by unidentified armed men in North Karachi, Sector-2, within the remit of Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police station.

The man was going on his bike to drop his children in the school early in the morning when he was targeted by armed men. The body was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities.

Police said the victim received four bullets and died on the spot. The police suspected that the man might have been killed on sectarian basis.

Separately, 30-year-old Muhammad Asif, son of Syed Majeed, was killed in firing by unknown armed men in Surjani Town, Sector L-1, within the jurisdiction of Surjani Town police station. The body was shifted to ASH for an autopsy.

Police said the victim was a member of banned outfit, Jaish-e-Muhammad.

Similarly, a man, aged around 50, was killed in firing by unidentified armed men in Raees Goth, Maripur, within the precincts of Maripur police station. The body was brought to Civil Hospital Karachi for a postmortem.

Medico-legal officer said the victim received one bullet in his head which proved fatal for him.

Meanwhile, an officer of Pakistan Navy Azeem Haider was seriously wounded in firing by unidentified armed men near Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Gate No 15, Maripur, within the remit of Jackson police station. The injured was rushed to PNS Shifa Hospital Karachi for treatment.

The Navy official was going in his car to office when the incident took place. He received four bullets and was admitted to Intensive Car Unit (ICU) of a hospital in critical condition.
