Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 94% Pakistanis consider family to be very important in their life.
A nationally representative sample of adult men, from across the four provinces was asked “Please tell us, how important is family in your life?” Responding to this, 94% said very important and 6% said somewhat important.
A similar survey was conducted in other countries. In China, 86% of the respondents considered family to be very important whereas 13% said it was somewhat important. 1% did not respond.
In Germany, 78% said family is very important compared to 18% who said it is somewhat important and 4% who opined that it is not very important. When the same question was asked in the United States, 91% believed that family was very important, 7% said it was somewhat important while 2% said it was not very important.
This study was done as part of the World Values Survey Sixth Wave, conducted apart from Pakistan in 60 other countries. The study was released recently in Doha where Gallup Pakistan’s Executive Director represented Pakistan.
The survey was carried out among a sample of 1200 men in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during 30th January – 20th February, 2012. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
