Islamabad: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health, Shaukat Ali Yousafzai has said that concrete measures were underway to overcome vector borne diseases. First-ever insulin bank of South Asia had been launched in KPK which would provide free treatment to diabetic patients across the province while hepatitis centre will also be established in the near future. Similarly, first burn centre of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will start functioning till May 2014.
He expressed his views while addressing at the 7th under-graduate Medical Research Conference at Peshawar Medical and Dental College, Peshawar on Thursday.
Special Assistant to Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Social Welfare, Dr. Mehr Taj Roghani, Principal Peshawar Medical College, Prof. Dr. Najeeb ul Haq, teachers and students were also present in the conference in large number.
Shaukat Yousafzai said that he was launching dengue awareness campaign soon adding government was facing many hurdles, hence private sector’s cooperation was needed to eradicate health problems.
He stressed upon the importance of medical research in public health and said that only becoming a medical professional would not be enough. He said that “Sehat ka Insaf” has been highly acknowledged by international humanitarian organizations like Malinda Gates Foundation and UNICEF and they had offered their cooperation for such future initiatives.
He further said “to preserve our future we must give protection from various diseases to our children, unfortunately, previous governments snubbed public health sector but providing basic health facilities to public is PTI’s major priorities”, he added.
Later, talking to media, health minister said that he had not joined Tehrik-e-Insaf for ministry as there was no importance of office in his eyes. He will continue to take on Imran Khan’s vision. Differences with party leadership are media oriented while there was no such thing in reality. Imran Khan was his leader and whatever he decided would be better for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He further said that he will act upon the learning which has been given to him during eighteen years period, the minister concluded.
