Islamabad: US Principal Deputy Special Representative to Pakistan and Afghanistan, Ambassador Elizabeth Jones called on Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan here Tuesday.
The meeting discussed the overall geo-political situation of the region, which was also attended by US deputy Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Thomas Williams.
The Minister said that greater cooperation and coordination between Pakistan and US is important for regional peace and security. He expressed his confidence that international community will be conscious of the interests of Pakistan especially in the Post-2014 scenario.
He said that Afghanistan is passing through crucial part of its history and hoped that there would be the positive outcome of Afghan elections, both for Afghanistan and for the entire region.
Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that Pakistan government is committed to work closely with new incoming government in Kabul for regional peace and stability.
He said that it is very important for the success of ongoing military operation “Zarb-e-Azb” in North Waziristan that international forces and Afghanistan government also take simultaneous concrete actions to root out the safe sanctuaries of terrorists operating in Afghan territory.
Expressing his satisfaction on bilateral relations, the Federal Minister said that Pakistan is committed to further strengthening these relations based on mutual respect and understanding.
Progress of different working groups operating under ongoing Strategic Dialogue between Pakistan and the US was also discussed in the meeting and it was agreed that inter ministerial meeting in this regard will be convened in near future.
Ambassador Elizabeth said that the US government is committed to further enhance its institutional support and cooperation in different fields especially in the fields of counter terrorism and policing.
She also appreciated role of Pakistan in regional peace and said that US views the government of Nawaz Sharif as a trusted and reliable partner for pursuit of peace and added that muti-faceted relations with Pakistan will further gain strength under his leadership.
