26% of Pakistanis have purchased lottery tickets/prize bonds, Poll


Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 26% of Pakistanis have purchased lottery tickets/prize bonds. Of these individuals, only 16% have won a prize bond/lottery prize.

A nationally representative sample of men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “Have you or anyone in your household purchased prize bond/lottery tickets?” Responding to this, 26% replied in the affirmative while 74% said no.

The individuals were further asked: “Have you or anyone in your household ever won a prize bond/lottery prize?” In response, 16% answered yes while 81% said no. 3% did not respond.

The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 1695 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during December 23, 2013 – Dec 30, 2013. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
