Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 50% Pakistanis claim that they would like to give or take some dowry at their child’s wedding.
A nationally representative sample of men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “If God gives you the chance, would you like to take or give dowry at your child’s wedding or not?” Responding to this, 50% were in favour of giving or taking some dowry at their child’s wedding while 34% said they would like to give or take dowry. 15% were adamant about not giving or taking any dowry.1% did not respond.
The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2604 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during January 13, 2013 – Jan 20, 2014. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
