Islamabad: Senior Member of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce Ahmad Jawad said that kinnow season is finishing without showing any better performance in exports.
He said that again 2013-14 export target would not be achieved due to bad performance of the exporters. Addressing the Standing committee of exports at WCCI, he said that last few years country regularly lost and regained some export markets because it could not ensure quality of the produce.
Jawad urged Ministry of Commerce to set up team of reputable exporters for enhancing kinnow export. As Pakistan’s Citrus (Kinnow) has become a major export item, but it has largely failed to reach its true potential because lack of proper focus and research, he added.
According to a study of Food and Agriculture Organization, (FAO), Pakistan was among the top 20 producers in the world in twenty horticultural products. At the moment less than ten percent of fruits and vegetables output are exported which include world famous mangoes, oranges and dates; he added.
