ISLAMABAD: The 11th Vice Chancellors’ Committee meeting held here and the Rectors and vice chancellors of over 70 public sector universities attended the meeting.
In the opening remarks, Vice Chancellors’ Committee Chairperson and Acting Executive Director HEC Engr. Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, welcomed the Vice Chancellors and hoped that New Year 2013 would prove more fruitful for the higher education sector of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, HEC Chairperson Dr Javaid R Leghari said that due to recent historic decision of Supreme Court of Pakistan the autonomy of HEC has been preserved.
He assured that the Supreme Court decision would be implemented in letter and spirit and the new executive director would be appointed within stipulated time.
He assured that HEC along with universities, single most important stakeholder, would continue its role for boosting up higher education sector in Pakistan.
On this occasion, the trophy of 32nd National Games was presented to Chairperson HEC. HEC has grabbed the second position in 32nd National Games with 29 gold, 62 silver 74 bronze with total 165 medals and 2935 points.
The meeting deliberated on financial issues, proposed establishment of provincial higher education councils, recent amendments in the university Act by the Punjab government, revitalizing HEC and other issues.
During the meeting, it was decided that a committee would be formulated to examine the issues related to higher education sector testing system.
The committee would be comprised of Rector National University of Science and Technology Islamabad Engr. Muhammad Asghar, Vice Chancellor University of Poonch AJK Prof. Dr Manzoor Hussain , Vice Chancellor Balochistan University Quetta Dr. Rasool Bakhsh Raisani, Vice Chancellor University of Swat Prof. Dr Muhammad Jehanzeb, Vice Chancellor Karakoram International University Gilgit Prof. Dr Najma Najam and Vice Chancellor Gujrat University Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nizamuddin.
