Pakistan expresses sympathy with Philippines typhoon victims


ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday expressed deep sympathies with the people of Philippines on the loss of lives in typhoon Haiyan.

President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, in their separate messages, expressed deep sympathies to President of the Philippines Benigno Aquino on the tragic loss of life and property.

A strong typhoon Haiyan ripped through the cities of Tacloban, Leyte and Samar Provinces in the central Philippines, causing huge loss of life and widespread damage to the property, besides displacing thousands of people.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Embassy in Manila is in contact with the host authorities as well as Pakistanis living in the region to ascertain their well-being, said a statement issued by a Foreign Office spokesman. He said, “According to our information, as of now, there has been no report of any casualty of any Pakistani.”
