Islamabad: President Mamnoon Hussain Tuesday said that the government would help the people affected by the famine in Thar and assured the Sindh Provincial government of all out support and assistance of the central government in its effort to tide over the calamity.
The President urged all concerned to ensure speedy provision of edible commodities, clean drinking water and medicines to the drought hit people so as to avoid the outbreak of any further diseases related to food shortage in the area.
The President said this while chairing a meeting to review the latest famine situation in Tharparker district and the relief and rehabilitation activities undertaken to provide relief to the famine affectees in all the six Talukas of the district.
Secretary Ministry of National Health Service, Regulations and Coordination, Mr. Imtiaz Inayat Elahi and senior officials of NDMA gave a detailed briefing about the latest situation in Thar and the progress on the relief efforts for the famine hit people in the district.
Expressing deep concern over the loss of precious lives including children in Tharparker, the President said that stern action should be taken against those responsible for the negligence in distribution of wheat amongst the residents of Tharparkar which led to the unfortunate tragedy.
The President on the occasion stressed the health departments and other relevant organizations at federal and provincial level to ensure that best medical treatment is provided to children and others admitted to various hospitals of the province.
