Karachi: Sectary General Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Centre Dr Mirza Ali Azhar on Thursday said no any political party has bothered to condemn constant killing of medical practitioners in the Sindh province which was highly condemnable act.
He expressed these views while talking to the media man during the condolence meeting followed by a press conference against the murder of Dr Shaukat N Nayani at PMA House Karachi. The condolence meeting was jointly organized by PMA and College of Family Medicine Pakistan.
The condolence meeting was attended by Dr Qazi Muhammad Wasiq, Dr Shershah Syed, Dr Shaukat Malik, Dr Aziz Khan Tank, Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad, and many other permanent doctors.
Dr Mirza said killing, kidnapping and harassment of doctors had continued in province since long, but unfortunately no any political party bothered to condemn the incident so far. He said time had come that doctor community carry weapon along with them for their protection and safety. He said law enforcement agencies have failed to provide protection to medical fraternity.
Sectary General PMA Karachi Qazi Wasiq informed that about eight doctors recently reported PMA that they have received extortion receipts from exertion mafia. He said around 10,000 doctors leave country every year due to security issues and threats.
He stressed the need of joint strategy from doctors side for their own protection and safety keeping in view worst law and order situation of the city. He said doctors are being killed and kidnapped but no action has been taken against criminals involved in such cases.
Dr Shaukat Malik termed the killing of doctors a tragedy and said authorizes concerned were not taking matter seriously.
Dr Aziz Khan Tank demanded of the government to immediately arrest culprits involved in killing of Dr Shaukat N Nayani, Finance Secretary of College of family Medicine Pakistan and gave them exemplary punishment.
