11 profiteers jailed, 113 fined for overcharging

KARACHI: In a crackdown on profiteers, 113 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 288500 fine for selling commodities above official rates, while eleven others were jailed.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.

In the crackdown, 38 milkmen, 18 shopkeepers of general commodities, 33 chicken sellers, 14 vegetable sellers, four meat sellers, one baker and five fruit sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices, while eleven persons were sent to jail for continuous violation of official rates.
