390 profiteers fined Rs 746000


KARACHI: In a massive crackdown on profiteers, 390 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 746000 fine for selling commodities above government rates. Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.

In the crackdown, 109 milkmen, 15 shopkeepers of general commodities, 60 chicken sellers, 114 vegetable sellers, 79 fruit sellers, 12 flour sellers and one nimko sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices, while 30 persons were sent to jail for continuous violation of official rates.
