KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui paid tribute to the legendry artist Moin Akhter for his extra-ordinary performances and social activities. He said Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) was promoting and patronizing the cultural and sports activities besides continuing the development process in the city. For this purpose a department had been established which was working for promoting arts and culture and solving the problems of artists.
He expressed these views while speaking in a program held by the Art Foundation to pay tribute to the legendry artist Moin Akhtar. Appreciating the endeavours of Art Foundation for the promotion and encouragement of artists Farooqui announced Rs50,000 grant for the institute.
Paying tribute to the legendary artist, he said Akhtar represented an era, his work in the field of performing arts would be remembered for ever as he lived in the hearts of his admirers.
He said Akhtar was also a social worker who served the people. Every one of us should try to follow him and support and encourage the young artists so that the creative and constructive activities in our society could promote further.
An actor par excellence, Moin Akhter had been bestowed the Sitara-i-Imtiaz and Pride of Performance award in recognition of his performance and talent by the government.
The administrator said despite having limited financial resources KMC had always supported the cultural and literary activities and taken measures for solving the problems facing by the artist community to save them from any kind of deprivation. Others who spoke on this occasion include famous singer Amjad Sabri, Alamgir, Muhammad Ali Shehki, Niaz Ahmed and others.
