Airport cleared, handed back to CAA


KARACHI: Director General ISPR, Major General Asim Bajwa, said on Monday after a precautionary sweep after daylight, Karachi airport was cleared by midday for operations, handed back to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Airport Security Force (ASF).

In a tweet earlier he said all the airplanes were unharmed. The fire, that was visible in pictures and blazing inside the airport, had erupted in a building and not in an aircraft. The airport will be given a full security clearance after a search operation in the morning, whereas flight operations will resume by Monday afternoon”.

He said all the terrorists were eliminated and weapons, ammunition, including RPGs and rockets recovered from the scene.

Maj Gen Bajwa said that the Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif paid rich tribute to all Shaheed and injured for their supreme sacrifice and congratulated participating troops for a well coordinated, successful operation eliminating all terrorists.

He said that the Jinnah International Airport Karachi had been handed over CAA and ASF after an undefeated counter-terrorism operation.
