Karachi: Administrator Karachi Saqib Ahmed Soomro said citizens would not have any problem in routine rains as KMC had already completed the arrangements. Not only on Gujjar Nullah but all the storm water drains were occupied by mafia and a large scale operation was required to vacate these drains.
He expressed these views while talking to media after a four hour long visit of the city on Tuesday during which he went to Gulshan Iqbal, University Road, Rashid Minhas Road, Sohrab Goth, Nagan Chowrangi, North Nazimabad, Shahra-e-Pakistan, Ayesha Manzil, Water pump, Liaquatabad and other areas to review the arrangements made with regard to expected rains.
Administrator also inspected the condition of different drains and enquired about their cleaning works. He instructed the officials to carry on cleaning of drains.
He said KMC had already made all necessary arrangements and all the officers and staff were ready with machinery and equipments. All of them would be on roads right after the start of rains.
He said he would personally monitor the works being carried out on city roads.
Soomro said the problems were creates due to the grabbing of drains’ banks. He said a large scale operation against these encroachments was under consideration.
To a query he said KMC continuously carrying out campaign against encroachments but it did not have the needed resources and staff to launch this operation in the whole city.
He appealed to the citizens to refrain from dumping garbage in drains. He said the leaves of staff were cancelled and all the staff was on the duty hence the citizens should not have any problem in the coming rains.
