Candlelight vigil for Lyari martyrs

KARACHI: In early 70s Lyari was known as a peaceful locality. A large number of doctors, actors and sportsmen belonged to this area but some vested interests who do not want to see peace in Lyari hatched conspiracies and made this area home of gang-war.

Noted journalist Saeed Sarbazi expressed these views at Karachi Press Club (KPC) at a ceremony to light candles in the memory of martyrs of Jhatpatt Market Lyari tragedy.

He said Lyari children played major role to get the 3rd position in the international tournament of Street Children’s Football World Cup 2014 in Brazil. He said this is the real face and identity of Lyarians who are capable and confident in many fields particularly soccer and boxing.

Baloch leader Yousuf Masti Khan said peoples of Lyari want to live in a peaceful environment but unfortunately some persons who belong to criminal groups have been ruling on Lyari from past many years. He said the government is responsible for all this. Parveen Naaz, Moem Khan and others also spoke and demanded compensation for the heirs of Lyari martyrs.
