KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday allowed secretary Interior Ministry (IM) and Director General Rangers more time to submit comments on a petition of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) against alleged extra-judicial killing of its activist Muhammad Adil.
SHC Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar, who headed division bench, directed provincial law officer to file reply of home department and provincial police chief of Sindh in response to the petition within three weeks.
The petitioners MQM leader Nasreen Jalil and Abdul Samad, bother of deceased MQM activist, jointly filed a petition requesting SHC to order registration of death case against AIG Shahid Hayat and other police officers, who she claimed were responsible for the death of their activist.
The petitioner brother of MQM activist submitted in the petition that Adil was arrested from his house, tortured in police custody and released in a very bad condition.
He said that Adil was admitted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on February 8.
Jalil claimed that before this murder, many MQM workers were extra-judicially killed while 45 others were missing.
She prayed to the court to order payment of compensation to the victims family and order registration of murder case against Karachi police chief and other police officials.
