Hasrat Mohani remembered

Karachi: Glowing tribute was paid to the valuable services and work of the great poet and freedom fighter Maulana Hasrat Mohani in a seminar held by the Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET).

Speaking on the occasion, Engr. Muhammad Adil Usman, Chancellor SSUET, said that Maulana Hasrat Mohani lead a simple life, free of wants, which re-strengthened his character and gave him courage to live up to his convictions and raised his voice in support of truth. His dynamic personality awakened the Muslims of the Sub-continent to achieve their destiny.

Chancellor Engr. Muhammad Adil Usman pointed out that the Maulana Hasrat played a significant role along with Quaid-i-Azam and actively participated in the movement started by the Quaid to achieve the political emancipation of Indian Muslims and secure a dignified and peaceful place for them in the socio-economic structure of India.

“Maulana Hasrat is acknowledged as the founder of the modern poetry who revived the genre with fresh and simple images. With highly sophisticated aesthetics, he concentrated mainly on the sincerity of thought and simplicity of sentiments and diction. His poems paint the true, dignified sentiments of love and portray the multifarious phases of human passions. Hasrat was a true product of his time and his verses are full of revolutionary thought, reactions and national aspirations of a person whose life was not soothing,” Engr. Muhammad Adil Usman added.

Highlighting the qualities of Hasrat, renowned poet and writer Professor Sehar Ansari said that Hasrat introduced the modern form of ghazal that had the true picture of the society. It was because of him that the experiences of real human life were presented in ghazals.

Noted scholar Prof. Dr. Waqar Ahmed Rizvi said Hasrat revived the ghazal in modern lines. His poetry touched the variety of subjects with vision. It was meaningful and unique that portrayed the political atmosphere of that time.

Research scholar Khwaja Razi Haider described the salient features of Hasrat’s life and poetry.
