KARACHI: On the direction of Food Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar, the Sindh food department has stopped illegal transportation of 46,133 wheat bags to other provinces.
According to details, food department has stopped illegal movement of 12600 wheat bags from Mirpurkhas Division, 22675 from Sukkur Division, 4500 from Kashmore and Jacobabad, 450 from Shaheed Benazirabad, 3900 from Badin and 2000 from Tando Muhammad Khan illegally moving to other provinces.
Provincial food minister said that illegal transportation of wheat to other provinces was prohibited under section 144. He said that procurement of wheat was in full swing in the province and so far food department had procured 222915 of wheat bags.
Dahar said that all food controllers were bound to provide jute bags to growers and those who do not do so would be taken to task.
He said that food department Sindh would achieve procurement target of 13 million wheat bags till 31st May 2014. He said that there was complete ban on transfers and postings till completion of procurement process of wheat and this ban was imposed on the directives of Chief Minister Sindh.
No corruption would be tolerated in food department and the help of Sindh rangers was being sought to stop illegally transportation of wheat to other province, he concluded.
