Karachi police seizes 7,250 kg hashish

KARACHI: DIG East Muneer Ahmed Sheikh on Friday claimed that police have seized 7,250 kilograms of hashish from a truck on Rashid Minhas Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi. Addressing a press conference at his office, the DIG East said that the hashish cost is Rs 1.56 billion at the international market and Rs 580 million in local market.

On this occasion, SSP East Pir Muhammad Shah said that the hashish was kept in hidden cavities a truck, which was recovered by the police. He said that three accused Muhammad Akhtar, son of Naib Khan; Hayat Muhammad, son of Muhammad Akhtar and Akhtar Zaib, son of Muhammad Akhtar had also been arrested.

Sheikh said that the police monitored the movement of the truck after receiving information from Rahim Yar Khan police. He said that the accused even offered Rs 80 million for releasing the truck and them.

DIG said that accused had reportedly brought the hashish to Karachi from Peshawar and planned to sell it abroad. Further investigation was underway, said Sheikh.

Sheikh also claimed East Zone police had arrested 25 target killers, 64 dacoits, seven extortionists, 13 offenders and 102 absconders during last month. He said that five Kalashnikovs, 217 pistols, four shotguns and 21 grenades were recovered from their possession while seven bandits were also killed in encounters.
