Nine killed as violence flares in Karachi


KARACHI: Nine people, including a caretaker of an Imambargah, were killed and one other injured in different violence incidents in the city on Monday.

Two men, Shaukat Sherazi, 45, and Qaiser Hussain, 50, were killed when unknown armed motorcyclists opened fire on them at Mithadar near Sherazia Imambargah in Old City area.

The bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-legal formalities.

SP City Sheraz Nazir said that Shaukat Sherazi, a caretaker of an Imambargah, and Qaisar, who was Sherazi’s guest were sitting in an office at Mithadar near Sherazia Imambargah when unknown armed bike riders shot them dead, SP said.

According to source, Shaukat Sherazi was also a member of Jaffaria Alliance Pakistan south wing.

Situation in Mithadar, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Malir and Abul Hassan Isphahani Road turned tense after the incident. The shops were closed in these areas.

A man Aqeel Qadri, 28, son of Muhammad Rafique, was killed by unidentified armed men in North Karachi, Sector 5B-2/5B-3 near Peela School. He was an ex-sector committee member of Sunni Tehreek. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for a postmortem examination.

A police constable, Arshad alias peter, aged 30, was killed by unknown armed men at Yousuf Goth in Baldia Town. The body was brought to CHK for medico-legal formalities.

Separately, a man, Farhan Afzal, 40, son of Afzal Ahmed, was gunned down by unknown armed men at Mianwali Colony within the limits of Manghopir police station. The victim was owner of a marble factory. The body was shifted to ASH for an autopsy.

Sajjad Ali, 35, son of Ali Hassan, was shot dead by unknown armed men in Federal B Area Block-7 within the limits of Joharabad police station. The body was shifted to ASH for medico-legal formalities.

Mohsin Agha, aged 50, was shot dead by unidentified armed men near Dak khana bus stop in Liaquatabad No 2. The victim was brought to ASH for medico-legal formalities.

Sadaqat Begam, wife of Zainul Hassan, was gunned down by unidentified armed men in Keamari late Sunday night. The body was shifted to CHK for a postmortem examination.

A teenager boy was killed by unidentified armed men in North Karachi 5-C-4 near Baradari. The body was brought to ASH for medico-legal formalities. The identity of the victim could not ascertain yet.

Yousuf Ali, 30, son of Hussain, was shot and injured by unidentified armed motorcyclists in Machhar Colony near Sadam Chowk within the limits of Docks police station. The injured was rushed to CHK for treatment.
