KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said on Monday that the benefit of bumper wheat crop in the country should reach the whole nation and even every single person, because it is everybody’s need.
He said that the city administration was busy taking every possible step to ensure that wheat flour was being sold to people on mutually decided prices.
“Since it is a basic need of everyone, whether rich or poor, it should be sold on cheap prices,” the commissioner said.
He said this while speaking in a meeting with Chairman Flour Mills Association Muhammad Yousuf and other relevant people at his office. Additional Commissioner Karachi Haji Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner Saddar Sajjad Abro, Deputy Director Price Control Commissioner Office Asif Iqbal and officers of food department were also present on the occasion. The steps to sell flour to the masses on cheap rates were discussed and agreed upon in detail in the meeting.
Yousuf acceded to the government’s priorities and steps and said that flour owners wanted to do good for a common man. He demanded from the commissioner that in order to bring down prices of flour the inter-districts transportation should be relaxed.
“For the relief of people, banners of fair price shops would be displayed on 85 flour mills from tomorrow (May 13),” he said.
Siddiqui praised the chairman for his benign expressions and said that providing relief to people was a mutual duty.
