Reforms in police underway: IGP

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Iqbal Mehmood said on Sunday that the reform process in police is being completing and in this regards, the responsibilities of Station House Officers (SHOs) are being made more efficient.

Addressing business community during his visit to FPCC, IGP said that the role of SHOs as an investigator is not clear, thus they should do work with Investigation Officer (IO). He said that the work of SHOs should not be limited only to register FIRs.

He said that a method had been introduced to review the performance of SHOs through senior officials. He said that experienced and professionally skilled officers would be appointed to review the performance of SHOs.

He said that black sheep were present in police department but there was no place for them as in this context, efforts were being made to clean them. He said that he was also checking the performance of SHOs himself and meetings with senior officers were also held in this regard.
