KARACHI: Security has been put on high alert through the country on the eve of Youm-e-Hazrat Ali (RA) being observed on Sunday.
The security plans have been finalized for Youm-e-Ali and traffic on M.A. Jinnah Road has been restricted due to the security arrangements by the police. At least 16,000 police officials along with Rangers would be performing their duties in Karachi.
Mobile phone services will remain suspended and security men would also be deployed on rooftops of several tall buildings. It should be noted that pillion riding has already been banned due to security reasons.
Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo said in a statement that police commandos and rangers have also been deployed in surrounding areas of Nishtar Park, Tibet Centre and Bolton Market.
Police will be aided by eight bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs for the process of searching the routes of main procession and surrounding areas after regular intervals. CCTV cameras will be continuously monitoring the procession while it passes through different areas. The shops located on the route of the procession would be sealed by the police.
Meanwhile, seven hundred police officials, 300 commandos and 200 Rangers personnel would be deployed for security in Hyderabad.
In Peshawar, the procession routes would also be cleared by Bomb Disposal Squads and more than 1000 security men would be deployed to meet any unforeseen situation on the occasion.
Cellular services would likely to be suspended in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock and Chakwal whereas pillion- riding has been banned in Bahawalpur, Bhakkar, Gujranwala and Dera Ghazi Khan.
