KARACHI: Sindh High Court on Monday directed local government secretary, city’s administrator, and other KMC officials to strictly act in accordance with law while dealing with the issue concerning demolition of two marriage lawns.
A division bench, headed by Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi, also issued notices to the respondents and provincial law officer on two identical petitions against imminent demolition of the two marriage lawns.
The petitioners, Asad Javeed and Syed Mohammad Zubair, submitted that they are running marriage lawns in Sector-11-E of North Karachi and UC-II of Korangi respectively. They said they hold the properties, where these lawns were constructed, on ten-year lease executed in 2009, adding the deputy commissioners of the respective districts had also issued no-objection certificates for establishing the wedding lawns.
Under the terms of the leases, they claimed, they were paying monthly charges.
In March, the petitioners said that the respondent authorities visited their lawns and demanded illegal money. When they refuse to fulfill their demands, they said, they threatened to demolish the lawns.
The authorities had launched a campaign against illegal marriage lawns constructed on the amenity properties, they said while apprehending that under garb the campaign, their lawful lawns will be demolished.
Nominating the secretary local government department, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s administrator, deputy commissioners of Central and Korangi districts, KMC’s anti-encroachment cell director as respondents, they prayed to the court to restrain the official respondent from razing their lawns.
