KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has sought comments from Cantonment Board Faisal’s executive officer, Sindh Cooperative Housing Authority’s chairman, and other respondents on a petition against encroachment over a piece of the green belt in Malir Halt’s Tariq Bin Ziad Cooperative Housing Society.
A division bench, headed by Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi, had taken up a petition filed by Sana Siddiqui, a resident of Tariq Bin Ziad Cooperative Housing Society, who moved the court seeking its directions for the authorities concerned for removal of encroachment from the green belt.
The woman petitioner, through her counsel, submitted there was a piece of the green belt, triangle in shape, near her house which was used by the residents for recreational activities. But, she added, the society’s office-bearers converted the same into a plot and sold it unlawfully.
She told the judges that the construction was being carried out on the green belt without any approved plan. Moreover, the petitioner pointed out that the owner of the plot had encroached upon the road by dismantling and reinstalling electric poles and cables along the road without approval of the authorities concerned.
She said she had complained to the authorities but could elicit no response. Therefore, she requested the court direct the authorities to remove encroachment from the green belt.
