Karachi: The shortage of water has badly affected routine operational work in National Institute of Child Health (NICH) and poor patients and their attendants are compelled to purchase water from shops.
Reliable sources confirmed that there has been acute water shortage in the hospital for a week and administration does not take the matter seriously, as no alternate water supply through tankers has been arranged to meet the shortage of water in this largest children healthcare of the province.
They informed that an underground water tank has already been constructed in the hospital with help of a non-governmental organization (NGO), but it is empty due to suspension of water supply to the hospital.
Due to the apathy of administration poor patients and their attendants are compelled to purchase water from shops and hotels for drinking and other uses. The sanitation system of hospital was also badly affected due to shortage of water in the hospital.
Executive Director, NICH, Prof Jamal Raza, could not be contacted for comment, despite several attempts.
