Karachi: 15-year-old Mohammad Muzammil defeated surprise opponent 53-year-old Hamid-ul-Haq in the second round of Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Tennis Tournament on Tuesday at PTF Complex in Islamabad.
In the first round, Hamid, a former Davis Cup player, who had also received Pride of Performance award, stunned fifth seed Usman Rafique to secure an unanticipated place in the second round.
However, the aged Hamid must be exhausted during the second round match after a day of adventure reminding his heydays and eventually lost the match to young Muzammil, who won the match 6-4, 6-3.
In another match, Abid Ali Akbar pulled a big upset against third seed Heera Ashiq and recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Meanwhile, unseeded Haseeb Yaqoob pulled another upset of the day defeating sixth seed Sanaullah Khan in straight sets by 6-2, 6-2 score.
