Two profiteers jailed, 45 fined


KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 45 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 75100 fine for selling commodities above government rates, while two others were jailed.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.

In the crackdown, 14 milkmen, 15 shopkeepers of general commodities, nine chicken sellers, one vegetable seller and six fruit sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices, while two persons were sent to jail for continuous violation of official rates.
