Two remanded to judicial custody in extortion case


KARACHI: Anti-Terrorism Court-II (ATC-II) on Monday remanded two alleged activists of banned outfit Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan till 7th April to judicial custody in extortion case.

The accused, Mohammad Wasif alias Wada and Shahbaz Mughal alias Munna, were produced before ATC-II judge under tight security. The investigation officer requested the court for more time to conduct further interrogations.

According to the prosecution, the suspects had demanded Rs 700,000 protection money from Syed Abbas Saani, who was retire employee of PTCL and extended him threats of killing in case of non-payment, within the remits Gulshan-e- Maymar police station on 8th March 2014.

Accused were arrested during a raid conducted by police in Gulshan-e- Maymar on 8 March 2014. Police claimed RS10000 sum and two 9mm pistols were also recovered from their possession.

The case FIR No, (38,39,40/2014) were registered under Sections 384, 32 (i) a Sindh Arms Act and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-terrorism Act (ATA) 1997 at the Gulshan-e- Maymar police station.
