KARACHI: Society for Environmental Actions, Reconstruction & Humanitarian Response (SEARCH) in collaboration with Sindh Community Foundation (SCF), Sindh Hari Porhiyat Council (SHPC) and We-Journalist observed the World Day to Combat Desertification by arranging an exposure visit for youth with the slogan ‘Land Belongs to the Future, Let’s Climate Proof It’ at Gorkh Hill Station Dadu located in Kachho area, one of the dry regions in Sindh, on 16-17 June 2014.
Exposure visit highlighted the benefits of mainstreaming sustainable land management policies and practices into our collective response to climate change. The program highlighted the importance of the World Day to Combat Desertification.
Speaking on the occasion, Society for Environmental Actions, Reconstruction & Humanitarian Response (SEARCH) Waheed Jamali said that whole world has been affected by climate change and due to this, deserted and arid regions were becoming more dry as a result, the people of those regions were facing water scarcity and several other problems. The aim of observing this day is to draw the attention of the government towards the problems being faced by the people of these regions.
Sindh Hari Porhiyat Council chief Punhal Sario, Sindh Community Foundation Director Javed Soz Halai and Editor of Sindh Newspaper Jaffer Memon also spoke on the occasion.
