ATC remands three accused of banned outfit to CID police

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court-III (ATC-III) on Friday remanded three activists of a banned outfit men to CID police custody till February 28 in a case pertaining to the possession of explosive material and illegal weapons.

The three suspects, Umer Farooq, Syed Ayub and Humayun Khan, were produced before the court amid tight security.

The investigation officer requested the court for more time to conduct further interrogations.

According to the prosecution, Farooq, Ayub and Humayun were arrested during a raid conducted by CID police on February 20, 2014.

They were subsequently booked in several cases pertaining to the possession of illegal arms and explosive material.

According to police, 120-kg explosive material was recovered from them and some illegal weapons were also seized. They were also involved in a police encounter, police said.

A case FIR No, (61/2014) was registered against the suspects under Sections 353 (criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code, Section 4/5 of the Explosive Substance Act at the CID police station.
