Karachi: An important road project to give the city alternate link to Superhighway has once again put on the back burner, causing great inconvenience to citizens. The project of Suparco Road linking Mosamiyat Chowrangi of Main University Road to Superhighway near Buraq gas station is delayed after completing of its two phases. The first phase of the road from Mosamiyat Chowrangi to Suparco headquarters and the second phase from Suparco headquarters to Madaras Chowk were completed many months back after considerable delay; however, work on the third phase from Madaras Chowk to the Superhighway is yet to be initiated.
This road is used by thousands of motorists daily as apart from many thickly populated localities the biggest complex of laboratories of the country, Pakistan Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (PCSIR), Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), University of Karachi, Dow University of Health Sciences, and Dow University Hospital Ojha Campus are situated along this two-track road.
Local social leaders Murtaza Ghouri, Imran Umrao and Mujeeb Soomro demanded of the local government department and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to start work on the remaining portion of the road, so that this important road link of the city, used as an alternative route in case of any disturbance at Suhrab Goth could be completed for facilitating citizens.
