Karachi: Karachi police is the biggest extortionist of the city, extorting Rs220million from the citizens every day, alleged Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) deputy convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui talking to media outside a private hospital in Gulistan-e-Johar on Sunday, where the MQM leaders inquired about the health of their worker Fahad, allegedly injured due to police torture.
Siddiqui said the Karachi police whisk away youths from the city and later release them after getting heavy extortion from their families. He appealed to the prime minister of Pakistan and the army chief to take notice of the excesses of Karachi police. He said within last few months hundreds of MQM workers were arrested and at least 10 of them killed extra-judicially.
He said police also inhumanly tortured their worker Fahad. He said the police with the third degree torture could get any statement from the arrested people.
